In the past month, I've been involved in some wonderful things.
I got to spend a week on the Hudson River with Clearwater, learning how to sail a tall ship and teach kids about the river. I volunteered at Riverkeeper's annual Shad Fest, which is all about the health of the Hudson and its aquatic life. I sat in on a meeting of all of the Dutchess County legislators to review the current draft of the Solid Waste Management Plan (more info here). Saw a presentation on bio-mimicry by Lily Zand & Oliver Schaper from School of Jellyfish. I talked with Eric Lombardi of Eco-Cycle, the best organization in the US for getting citizens access to resources to help them make sustainability a reality in their communities. With Beacon's CAC, Zero to Go is organizing an electronics recycling event for this July, open to all residents in Beacon and the surrounding area. Donation proceeds will benefit Beacon's Sloop Club. I've also helped publicize the Zero Waste Garden Tour, set for June 11 in Beacon. Finally, I celebrated spring with the Sargent-Downing Garden and Nursery, and planted flowers, food, trees, and herbs with the community.
Tomorrow, joining folks from Dutchess County communities for Clearwater's Climate Justice Workshop. Speakers include Andrew Revkin, journalist and author of Dot Earth Blog for the NY Times, and I will finally get to meet Melissa Everett from Sustainable Hudson Valley.
Wish I had more time to write about each and every event! Will try to keep up a bit more as this busy spring continues.
You are a busy busy girl and such an excellent Beacon representative. You Go Girl!!!
